Synopsis: Much of Andrej Lupin’s “Above” is captured by a camera positioned high above the performers. The film begins with a slow tracking shot that establishes the vertiginous camera placement with masterful elegance. Later on the airborne camera takes a curvilinear path, swooping, spinning and swerving with balletic grace above the two earthbound players below. But style without substance never fully satisfies, and that’s where the impassioned performances of Uma Zex and Lexie Dona come in.
A perfect pairing of light and dark, Uma and Lexie kiss tenderly and with rapidly increasing passion on an L-shaped sofa. Intimate, ground level close-ups capture the powerful natural attraction between the two women.
